When we speak fast a funny thing happens in English: we sometimes lose sounds! Especially sounds at the end of words, for example /t/ and /d/ are often lost in connected speech. We call this feature of connected speech ‘elision’ but we also sometimes refer to it as ‘dropped consonants’.
