In this video we are going to have a look at two features of connected speech: linking R and intrusive R.
Linking R is something that often occurs when non-rhotic speakers speak naturally. But wait! Didn’t we just learn last week that non-rhotic speakers do not pronounce their Rs? Yes, that’s right, only that they do on certain occasions! I will explain what it is in detail, and we are going to have a look at some examples.
Intrusive R is the occurrence of the sound /r/ when it is not even represented through the spelling. Again, I will go over some examples with you and at the end there is a little test for you to check how much you have understood.
