In this video we are going to look at a specific pattern of intonation that has many names: high rising terminal, uptalk, upspeak, upward inflection, Australian Questioning Intonation (AQI) and Valley Girl talk.
What all of these terms describe is a rising intonation in statements which makes the utterance sound less certain and more like a question.
We are going to look at some examples and I will also share my opinion on whether to adopt this intonation pattern – or not.
