Word & Sentence Stress in English

In this video we are going to look at word stress and sentence stress through the famous song โ€˜My Favourite Thingsโ€™ from the 1965 musical film โ€˜The Sound of Musicโ€™.

The song works so well because it has been written using triple time like a waltz: it follows the pattern: one-two-three-one-two-three. Throughout the lyrics, all strong syllables fall on the โ€˜oneโ€™ while weak syllables fall on the โ€˜twoโ€˜ or โ€˜threeโ€˜.

We are going to have a look at one verse of this song and then you are encouraged to write your own verse telling us about your favourite things.
